Avenue Living Continues No Smoking Policy After Marijuana Legalization
CALGARY, AB – In light of the upcoming legalization of marijuana on October 17, 2018, Avenue Living Communities will prohibit the smoking and production of marijuana within all of its residential units. Avenue Living currently enforces a strict no-smoking policy for all of its properties. The prohibition on smoking of marijuana will fall within this category.
“We believe in providing a safe and secure environment for our tenants, and this policy is in line with those core values,” said Zora Roberts, Chief Operating Officer of Avenue Living Communities.
Avenue Living has taken into account the significant health hazards associated with second hand smoke, other safety concerns and the possible nuisance caused by the presence of smoke, including lasting odours which can permeate floor, carpets, interior finishes and walls, as well as other undesirable effects on the peaceful enjoyment of other tenants in the property.
The policy also includes a prohibition of production of marijuana and marijuana derivatives, due to the potential undesirable impact on both tenants and buildings, such as nuisance smells, overburdened electrical systems and property damage associated with increased moisture levels.
